Evelyn Jenkins Drew
Evelyn Jenkins Drew is a fifth-generation California artist. She studied at San Jose State University in California, receiving a bachelors degree in art in 1980. Evelyn paints bright and colorful representational scenes with turquoise water and banana trees and tropical palms that evoke the warmth of tropical breezes of the Caribbean, Hawaii and Mexico. Early on she began painting on silk using thickened dyes. Now she paints with watercolors and acrylics.
Evelyn has licensed her art to Sage Brush Fine Art, which publishes posters of her nostalgic surf scenes with woodies and Volkswagen buses, and markets them internationally. Her posters of images like Long Board and Ford and Van Surf and Sand can be seen at many Web sites that sell posters online.
Her art has been chosen for the official posters for several Capitola Begonia Festivals, the Capitola Art and Wine Festival and the Santa Cruz to Capitola Wharf to Wharf Race, and for packaging and catalog covers and in art books like Splash 10: The Best of Watercolor.
Drew's work can be seen in many countries, including England, Canada, the Caribbean, South Africa, Mexico and Trinidad. She is a longtime participant in the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz Countys annual Open Studio Tour.
Evelyn and her husband, Terry, have lived in the wonderful Santa Cruz area for many years. They now spend three to four months of the year traveling on their sailboat in the Caribbean, where Drew paints while her husband does his boat projects. During the summer she exhibits in California. Email her for a schedule of shows. ejd@cruzio.com
